RTI
RTI is response intervention for students struggling with
reading in the classroom. RTI implementation works like this. The whole class
receives literacy instruction. The teacher monitors the students carefully and
anyone who seems to be falling behind are given additional help and instruction.
Students in this category who do not seem to be improving are evaluated to
identify their difficulties and are then given specific instruction that is
best suited to them. These students receive individual instruction from special
ed teachers and professionals.
This intervention system is great because struggling students
are given very exact and specific instruction. Additionally, they receive extra
help within the classroom which is often easier and less embarrassing for students.
RTI seems to require so much time, energy and focus from the
teacher. I wonder how teachers can implement it in the classroom…. Perhaps a
special teacher aid could come in every day for a set amount of time to
specifically help the teacher with this.
